Remote, USA Full-time
Overview Our client, a globally recognized publishing and media company, is seeking a Vice President of Product to lead the strategy, innovation, and scaling of next-generation digital publishing platforms that reach hundreds of millions of readers worldwide. This executive will define the product vision for the company’s digital ecosystem—including editorial tools, consumer subscription experiences, advertising solutions, content intelligence systems, and multi-format storytelling platforms (web, mobile, audio, video). The ideal candidate is a seasoned product leader who thrives at the intersection of content, technology, and audience engagement. You will partner closely with editorial leadership, engineering, design, data, and commercial teams to shape the future of how journalism, entertainment, lifestyle, and branded content are created, distributed, and monetized at global scale. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership • Define and own a multi-year product vision for the company’s digital publishing ecosystem—spanning content creation, editorial workflows, distribution, personalization, and audience monetization. • Translate macro media trends (AI-assisted storytelling, subscription economies, evolving ad models, short-form video, and reader engagement patterns) into actionable product strategies. • Partner with the CEO, CTO, CPO, and editorial leadership to align product investments with company-wide objectives across journalism excellence, audience growth, and revenue diversification. • Evaluate opportunities in emerging formats such as streaming audio, interactive storytelling, newsletters, community experiences, and global content expansion. Product Strategy & Execution • Lead full-lifecycle product development across consumer apps, website platforms, content management systems (CMS), editorial tools, and data-driven audience intelligence platforms. • Establish product operating rhythms including roadmap governance, OKRs, performance dashboards, and data-informed prioritization. • Drive cross-functional execution with engineering, UX, data science, advertising operations, and marketing to ship products that improve engagement, retention, and revenue. • Champion experimentation and iterative delivery via A/B testing, user research, prototype development, and rapid validation cycles. Audience, Market, and Editorial Insight • Serve as a unifying voice across the business—integrating insights from audience analytics, subscriber research, editorial needs, and advertiser expectations. • Build strong relationships with newsroom stakeholders to deeply understand content workflows, storytelling needs, and production challenges. • Monitor competitive landscapes across digital media, publishing, subscription services, and creator platforms to inform differentiation and innovation opportunities. • Leverage data science to improve reader engagement, personalization algorithms, content recommendations, and user retention. Monetization, Subscriptions & Advertising • Define roadmap for subscription products, reader experiences, and value-added membership offerings. • Partner with Revenue, Ads, and Marketing teams to innovate monetization models across: • Subscription tiers • Paywall strategy • Dynamic pricing • Advertising formats • Sponsored content experiences • Balance revenue optimization with user trust, editorial integrity, and long-term brand value. Operational & Organizational Leadership • Lead and scale a high-impact team of product directors, managers, and cross-functional product squads. • Instill a culture of collaboration, inclusion, curiosity, and data-driven decision making. • Partner with Engineering leaders to define standards for platform scalability, CMS reliability, site performance, and newsroom productivity. • Collaborate with Design and Editorial Experience teams to create seamless, accessible, and delightful reader experiences across devices and content formats. Innovation & Growth • Incubate new digital products and content experiences—from consumer apps to creator tools to AI-driven editorial support systems. • Evaluate strategic partnerships and acquisitions across publishing technology, data platforms, and audience engagement tools. • Build frameworks for innovation management and cross-functional experimentation to accelerate new ideas. • Introduce technologies that enhance newsroom efficiency, automate production tasks, and enable richer storytelling formats. Qualifications • 15+ years of product management experience, including 7+ years leading senior PMs and large cross-functional product organizations. • Proven leadership building large-scale consumer digital products in publishing, media, content platforms, or subscription-based businesses. • Strong understanding of editorial workflows, CMS architecture, content distribution systems, and newsroom operational needs. • Experience driving subscriber growth, reader engagement, audience retention, and multi-channel monetization. • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with editorial leaders, engineering executives, marketers, and commercial teams. • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to simplify complex technical and editorial concepts for executive and cross-functional audiences. • Strategic thinker with the ability to navigate ambiguity, balance competing priorities, and lead through change. • Background in media, journalism, entertainment tech, or platforms with global user bases preferred. • Bachelor’s required; advanced degree (MBA, MS) preferred. Leadership Attributes • Editorial empathy: Deep respect for storytelling, journalism, and creative excellence. • Audience obsessed: Understands user motivations, reading behaviors, and engagement drivers. • Strategic operator: Connects long-term vision with near-term deliverables and measurable outcomes. • Technical fluency: Adept at working with engineering, data, and platform teams to deliver complex products. • Influential communicator: Builds alignment across editorial, product, technology, and commercial partners. • Team builder: Scales world-class product organizations with clarity and purpose.
