Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement comprehensive programming to increase student retention, including time management, note-taking, and study skills support Provide targeted support to students enrolled in BIO185 and/or BIO274, serving as a mentor, learning coach, and key resource person Collaborate with Life Sciences Faculty and Dean of Nursing and Allied Health to identify students at risk and develop strategies for support Maintain confidentiality and communicate effectively with faculty, students, and college staff Collect and interpret qualitative and quantitative data to track student performance and retention, reporting findings to instructors and college administrators Develop and execute ongoing mentoring activities using Math and Sciences Division and college-wide resources Support students via scheduled face-to-face and online/virtual appointments, drop-in visits, and timely email correspondence Essential Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Health Sciences, Teaching, or a closely related field Strong knowledge of biology and education principles, with a passion for student success and retention Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion Preferred Qualifications: Teaching or tutoring experience in biology or a related field Familiarity with Biology Education Research/SABER (Society for the Advancement of Biology Education Research) Experience with student retention and success initiatives Skills and Competencies: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and develop effective strategies Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to student success and retention Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite, with experience in data analysis and reporting Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits: Rock Valley College is committed to supporting the professional growth and development of our employees.
