Job Summary As a Medical Lab Technician and Technical Director for the Genetics Laboratory, you will be responsible for the effective planning, organization, direction, and coordination of technical operations, including pre- and post-analytical functions. You will work closely with the Genetics Division Medical Director and Administrative Director to ensure the highest quality of laboratory services, fiscal responsibility, and productivity. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement technical policies, systems, and procedures for the Medical Genetics Laboratory. Participate in the development of short-term and long-range plans and programs, including budget and cost information. Establish and monitor technical methods, processes, and procedures to ensure validity, accuracy, and analysis of all tests performed. Direct technical training programs for employees, new employees, medical technology students, medical students, and residents. Maintain liaison with physicians, genetic counselors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure effective communication and collaboration. Participate in proficiency surveys and continuing assessment of test procedures to improve quality, reduce costs, and enhance efficiency. Develop and maintain technical records and reports, and issue reports regarding quality and quantity of clinical test procedures and results. Appraise performance of subordinates and contribute to their development. Participate in the development of operating and capital equipment budget for the Medical Genetics Laboratory. Qualifications and Requirements Minimum Qualifications PhD in Life Science relevant to Biochemical Genetics, such as Biochemistry, Genetics, etc. Previous experience in a clinical laboratory, including administrative and managerial experience in technical activities. Board certification or Active Candidacy by the American Board of Medical Genetics in Clinical Biochemical Genetics, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Cytogenetics, or Clinical Molecular Genetics. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a leadership role, with a proven track record of success. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Skills Required Analytical ability to serve in an advisory/consultative role. Communication and interpersonal skills for frequent contact with internal customers and external stakeholders. Project management skills, including defining program objectives, identifying stakeholders, and allocating resources. Leadership skills, including demonstrated willingness to pursue leadership roles, comfort with decision-making responsibilities, and coaching and teaching skills.
