Position Details Job Type: Part-time (Contract) Hours: 24 hours/week to start, with potential for additional hours or transition to full-time Location: Preference for Seattle, WA, or New York; open to fully remote within the US for the right candidate Compensation: $30-$45/hour (commensurate with experience) Start Date: Flexible; ideally within 2-4 weeks Client Service Responsibilities As a Part-Time Tax Reviewer, you will be responsible for: Conducting detailed reviews of individual and business tax returns, with a strong focus on S Corps, Schedule C clients, and small businesses. Ensuring compliance with S Corp-specific requirements, including reasonable compensation, shareholder distributions, and payroll filings. Serving as the primary point of contact for client inquiries, providing timely, professional, and actionable guidance. Conducting client-facing video calls to discuss tax return reviews, projections, and other tax-related matters. Reviewing and providing input on quarterly and year-end tax projections to help clients optimize their tax strategies. Overseeing and approving extension filings, ensuring compliance with deadlines and federal/state regulations. Maintaining organized and secure documentation for all client-related interactions and filings. Team Responsibilities In addition to client service responsibilities, you will also: Provide constructive feedback to preparers on corrections or improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency. Collaborate with team members to resolve complex tax scenarios and implement innovative solutions for clients. Recommend and assist in implementing process improvements to streamline the tax preparation and review workflow. Actively support the team's proactive planning to reduce the workload during tax season. Required Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need: Experience: 6+ years in tax preparation with review, with significant expertise in S Corps, including reasonable compensation analysis and compliance. Certifications: Active PTIN (Preparer Tax Identification Number); CPA or EA required. Software Proficiency: Required: Lacerte, Adobe, Microsoft Excel, G Suite; Preferred: TaxDome. Tax Knowledge: In-depth understanding of federal and multi-state tax laws, including S Corp-specific compliance requirements, deductions, and payroll filings. Confidentiality: Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive client information with discretion and maintain the highest standards of confidentiality. Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to conduct clear, professional client interactions via video calls. Preferred Qualifications We prefer candidates with: Experience reviewing tax returns for Partnerships, S Corps, and multi-state filings. Familiarity with Washington B&O taxes or similar state-specific compliance requirements. Knowledge of IRS correspondence and tax resolution procedures.
