Job Overview As a Patient Care Technician - PCT, you will play a vital role in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy to patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Your responsibilities will include setting up and operating hemodialysis machines, assisting with patient care and education, and maintaining a safe and clean working environment. You will be an integral part of our healthcare team, working closely with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient care. Key Responsibilities Assist with patient care and education, including providing detailed information about adequacy measures, disease process, and access care Set up and operate hemodialysis machines, including performing pre-treatment checks and troubleshooting technical issues Assist with vascular access evaluation, cannulation, and administration of Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law Monitor patients' response to dialysis therapy and report any unusual findings to the nurse supervisor Perform and record pre and post-dialysis evaluations, including vital signs and treatment parameters Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient treatment, including completion of Hemodialysis Treatment Sheets and progress notes Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities and contribute to the development of process improvements that enhance patient satisfaction and outcomes Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications: CMS-approved state and/or national certification or High School diploma or G.E.D. and must meet certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility preferred Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams Basic computer skills and proficiency in electronic medical records Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following preferred qualifications will be considered an asset: Experience working in a dialysis or nephrology setting Certification in phlebotomy or other related field Knowledge of hemodialysis machines and equipment Experience with electronic medical records and other healthcare software applications Skills and Competencies To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and competencies: Strong patient care and education skills, with the ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner Technical skills, including the ability to set up and operate hemodialysis machines and troubleshoot technical issues Organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities Collaboration and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with healthcare teams and other stakeholders Adaptability and flexibility, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to changing priorities and circumstances Career Growth and Development Opportunities At Fresenius Medical Care, we are committed to the growth and development of our employees.
