Department Summary The History department at SJSU is a dynamic and diverse community of scholars, offering courses that cover most of the world and all periods of time. We have nine full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty and ten part-time or full-time lecturers. Our department is committed to providing high-quality education to nearly 300 undergraduate and graduate History majors, as well as hundreds more undergraduate students enrolled in History survey courses. Job Summary We are seeking a qualified lecturer to teach and supervise SSED 184Z: Phase II Student Teaching, a 4-unit graduate course offered through the History Department and the College of Education/Teacher Education Department. This course fulfills the Phase II Student Teaching requirement to earn a CA teaching credential. The ideal candidate will have culturally diverse teaching experience, a strong commitment to the academic success of all students, and the ability to teach, observe, and evaluate single subject secondary education student teachers in their field placements. Key Responsibilities Teach and supervise SSED 184Z: Phase II Student Teaching, a 4-unit graduate course Meet with students as required and maintain student records, including attendance, Individual Development Plans (IDP), and formative and summative evaluations Use Canvas and other appropriate instructional technology to support student learning Attend faculty and college meetings, as required Follow all CSU and SJSU policies and guidelines Demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a diverse student population through inclusive support materials, teaching strategies, and advisement Required Qualifications BA in a Social Science subject area, such as U.S. History, World History, or Political Science Minimum of 5 years of U.S. and/or World History teaching experience at the secondary education level (7-12th grade) Ability to teach, observe, and evaluate single subject secondary education student teachers in their field placements Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work and employment in an educational setting Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population Availability to engage in a professional learning team with other supervisors and subject area coordinators Preferred Qualifications MA or PhD in U.S. or World History Experience with the Canvas learning management system What We Offer As a Lecturer AY-SSED Teaching Supervisor at SJSU, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse student population and contribute to the academic success of our students.
